Everyone I have had the pleasure of speaking to and have had questions, has been actually pretty nice and not judgmental at all. I got a good, relaxed feeling when even approaching the counter so I must say that was settling. Because having to be in a situation needing to ask for help is always embarrassing and I am not one that enjoys or likes it at all. The only thing I found frustrating was when asking about certain; if any, services or where to go for services for my disabled special needs child no one seemed to know what I was talking about or how to help me and when finding out; eventually after literally going all over Virginia in search of, that in fact social services does participate in the program/ services I asked about I was annoyed. I moved here from California not all that long ago and over there my daughter was a recipient of IHSS In Home Supportive Services and I was her provider. Virginia just basically refers to it a little bit different but still IHSS. Virginia also has a ridiculous and stressful process and lengthy lengthy wait time if approved for waiting list. California if a social worker does an intake and documents back up the information applied for your approved as soon as their paperwork is finished. My daughter was literally approved same week as her intake and they back date it to date applied for services if and when approved.
