I've visited the building. There are only 2 available social workers to help you. The office is understaffed, the two employees are over worked. When you call there's no response. If you email, you get an automated response. The problem here is the distribution of funds, and not the system.
They are so understaffed that they only go after low hanging fruit so don't sign a safety plan. If they have to go to court, they usually won't bother. Say you refuse to talk without a lawyer and they'll back down.
This office is a joke. Protective child services is suppose to PROTECT child. You have a plan of care but don't follow through with it, what good is it. If you are going to put something in order and you say you are concerned about the child, then please follow through with you job.
The Tavares DCF office says they open at 8 am. Their phone services also state that they open at 8am. They were not open at that time. There is no way to know when the person at the front desk is taking her lunch. It's a shame that this is a government run building. Doing better.
According to these people someone with no criminal background is accused of having a criminal background and non credible yet never arrested convicted or charged with a single crime. Sounds like a law suit if you ask me.
No I have not been to the office but I have spoke to them on the phone. I did not find them helpful at all the several times I spoke to them. Maybe they are really tired and have a case overload but it seems to me when you have a citizen call in about concerns for a child it would certainly take a great interest but I found that not to be the case. We are interested in caring for a child that is not in their custody at this time and that maybe why they were so uninterested.
No I have not visited office but I have called and left several messages. No one has bothered to call me back concerning the welfare of a child. My encounters with the Lake County DCF certainly have not been very good. I know they are busy and are handling several cases. But I run into their personal DONT CARE ATTITUDE which truly bothers me.. They do not have an emergency number which I can find to contact someone to care about a child so we will be forced to wait until after Memorial Day to even hear anything even if we do then. I called in regular business hours and correct day and left a message and still did not hear from them in the 24hrs. period they stated they would contact me. I am very upset and do not trust their decisions in this county and I think we need a full scale investigation into Lake Co. careless and offset attitudes. I am a lifelong resident of this county and highly involved in politics and to me this is very dissatisfying way to run any type of state agency and I will be addressing this with my elected officials.
